Remembrance Sunday 2011

A service of Remembrance was held in the grounds of Bawdrip Church on Sunday 13th November. This, now traditional service was attended by serving and retired service personnel as well as cadets. This year we were also very pleased to invite veterans to join in a parade up to the church. Under the supervision of Sergeant Bill Hubbock (retired) a column of 8 were marched smartly into the churchyard to the sounds of the Irish Guards playing 'The Boys of the Old Brigade'. After a brief welcome from Bill, the assembled company of approximately 80 adults and children, joined with the crowds at the Cenotaph in London as Big Ben chimed11am and the two minutes silence cannon was fired. As the second canon fired to mark the end of the two minute silence our buglers, Dr Dave and his daughter Annabel played Last Post and Reveille. During the following short service wreaths were laid by Lt. Commander Daryl Helsby (RN) and Mr. R. Williams (Parish council) and individual tributes were laid by members of the congregation. The traditional reading of the names of the fallen was made by Lt. Jarman (ret) and readings and epitaphs were delivered by Councillor David Hall and Cadet Rosie Peel. The service concluded with the National Anthem and three rousing cheers for Her Majesty the Queen. Refreshments were then served in the church. All proceeds from the day, which totalled £131, have been sent to the Royal British Legion . Many thanks to all those who helped organise the day and those who joined us as part of the national act of remembrance.
